Next cantonal victory for Dortmund, Bavaria back on track for success

Borussia Dortmund celebrated their sixth victory in the eighth game of the season by beating VfB Stuttgart 4-0. Robert Lewandowski led the Bavarians to a 3-1 victory in Wolfsburg. Bremen is the new runner-up.

Stuttgart – Bayern Munich has achieved a turnaround in results. On Saturday, the Munich team won the 8th round of the German Bundesliga in Wolfsburg 3:1 and finished their four games in a series of victories. Four points ahead of Bavaria at the top of the table is Borussia Dortmund after an undisputed 4:0 victory in Stuttgart.

On “away Saturday” in the Bundesliga – in the five afternoon games the home team never won – Hoffenheim also cheered after a 3:1 victory in Nuremberg. Leverkusen avoided the home defeat late in the 2-2 draw against Hanover, Augsburg and RB Leipzig separated without a goal.

Lewandowski as Bayern match winner

After the media scolding of the leadership, the Bayern players let their performances speak in Wolfsburg. The performance of the record champion, where ÖFB star David Alaba celebrated a 45-minute comeback as left defender after a healed muscle fiber tear, was by no means furious. But the victory was deserved.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice – once after a beautiful combination (30th), once after a serious defensive flop (49th). After yellow-red for Arjen Robben (57th), the match was especially exciting after Wout Weghorst’s follow-up goal (63rd). James Rodriguez took away the Wolfsburgers’ hope for a point win (72nd) after Lewandoswki’s submission.

Leading Dortmund set the course for victory early in Stuttgart. Jadon Sancho (3rd), Marco Reus (23rd) and Paco Alcacer (25th), whose purchase option the BVB wants to pull, were already responsible for BVB’s clear 3-0 lead during the break. Although Stuttgart had good chances at the debut of the new coach Markus Weinzierl in the second half, they did not exploit them. Maximilian Philipp scored the fourth BVB goal in the final phase (85th).

At Augsburg against Leipzig, Martin Hinteregger and Michael Gregoritsch and Stefan Ilsanker were three ÖFB team players in the starting eleven. An early penalty whistle in favour of the guests was probably rightly cancelled after the video referee intervened. Because the goal scenes were missing in the tough game until the end, the point division was also performance-related.

Werder new second in the table

Leverkusen remains stuck in the lower region of the table. Bayer defender Wendell failed early with his penalty to Hanover goalkeeper Michael Esser (8th), Florent Muslija hit the other side with a free-kick (25th). After goals from Lars Bender (34th) and Felipe (54th), the visitors with Kevin Wimmer (60th) defended the lead even after yellow-red for Felipe (57th) until the 94th minute, before Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi scored 2:2.

Champions-League starter Hoffenheim had a hard time in Nuremberg for a long time. However, Arsenal loaner Reiss Nelson turned the game around with a double pack (50th, 57th), Adam Szalai headed for the final score of 3:1 (67th). Hanno Behrens had shot the Nürnberger, where Georg Margreitter played through in the central defence, into the lead by penalty. Florian Grillitsch, who had recently missed the ÖFB international games due to a stretching of the ligament in his knee, played for the winners in the first half.
