Sensational! Wacker finished winning streak of Meister Salzburg

FC Wacker Innsbruck earned a 1-1 draw at Salzburg on Saturday evening with a concentrated defensive performance and quick counterattacks. For the first time this season, the league champions did not leave the pitch as winners.

Salzburg – As the first team in the current Bundesliga season, FC Wacker Innsbruck did not lose against Red Bull Salzburg. The Tyroleans won a 1-1 draw against the champion, who had all won the first ten championship games.

Zlatko Junuzovic had shot the home side into the lead in the 71st minute, but Cheikou Dieng equalled the score for the underdog just one and a half minutes later. Salzburg defended an impressive series with the draw: The “bulls” have been without defeat in front of their own audience since 50 compulsory games or since 3 December 2016.

One-way street football in the direction of Hankic

The opening match for the new lawn in Wals-Siezenheim took the expected course. Salzburg, again with the storm duo Munas Dabbur/Fredrik Gulbrandsen in front of a midfield consisting of Xaver Schlager, Diadie Samassekou, Junuzovic and Reinhold Yabo, set the tone, but was faced with a brave opponent especially at the beginning. In the tenth minute, he had a great counterchance, but Michael Schimpelsberger’s conclusion passed the long corner.

The impression of one-way street football was quickly confirmed, however, after almost a quarter of an hour Dabbur tested Wacker-Goalie and Bundesliga debutant Hidajet Hankic, who replaced the injured Christopher Knett, at the first “bull” chance (14th). Salzburg continued to fail in the final moments: After a Hankic defense Lukas Hupfauf saved from Gulbrandsen (18th), a shot by Andreas Ulmer was blocked to the corner (24th), Schlager missed the goal from a few meters volley (27th). Shortly before the break, Yabo benefited from a defensive mistake, but found his champion in Hankic (40th).

The pressure of the home side remained high even after the change of sides, but the chain of five of the still brave acting guests still held. A harmless Gulbrandsen shot, which Hankic held (52.), as well as a fire-dangerous Junuzovic Stangplass, which the best positioned Dabbur missed by mistake (57.), were the best Salzburg actions for the time being. And if Cican Stankovic hadn’t rescued Zlatko Dedics from a good 40 meters with the clever lifter, the champion would even have fallen behind after one hour.

But, as expected, it came differently: After an energy attack Stefan Lainer’s input in billiard-style reached Junuzovic, who with the help of Matthias Maak’s foot shot to 1-0. But Wacker’s answer was as impressive as it was prompt – with the help of the foolish Salzburgers: Less than two minutes later Dieng finished a counterattack with the equalizer – he had already last cold-set the LASK in the counterattack.

Luck in the final minute

While Innsbruck launched several counterattacks in the finish, Salzburg continued to press for victory. But the efforts were no longer rewarded: Maak fended off a Dabbur shot just before the line (74th), in the finish Hankic was there with a desperate hammer Andre Ramalhos from afar (94th), Patson Daka knocked on the crossbar (95th). “Only a few people believed us to be able to reach this point. But we always believed in ourselves. We deserved this draw because of our fighting performance,” Wacker-Keeper Hankic summed up with satisfaction. The annoyance about the goal scored in the Bundesliga debut was quickly gone: “Because the game ended 1:1, I can live well with the one goal scored against.

After the 1:0 home win over the LASK before the international break, the black-green team continued to build up their self-confidence. Next week Austria will be at the Tivoli.

Hercules’ task for FC Wacker: Salzburg champions to take on new challenges

Series champion RB Salzburg has his eleventh victory in the eleventh game of the season in his sights and FC Wacker is prepared for a defensive battle in the bull arena.

Innsbruck – Admittedly, everything speaks against FC Wacker – but in today’s guest appearance of the Black Greens at 5 pm in the Bullen-Arena, the roles are so clearly distributed. A glance at the table, the odds in the betting offices (all in double digits) and the record series of the insatiable Salzburger make this clear. Anything but the eleventh victory in the eleventh game of the season would be a big surprise for the table leader.

“That’s all true. Salzburg is a very stable, extremely strong team. The winning streak is very impressive. They always win, even deservedly, but not with a high goal difference,” Karl Daxbacher knows that the grapes in the bull arena are extremely high. But the Wacker coach also relies on the quality of his team: “We have to believe in that, because in football every series is once again torn. What do the Tyroleans expect today? “A defensive battle. We have to knock everything in, we shouldn’t hide too much and use rooms for counterattacks, if they open up at all,” says Daxbacher. Hidajet Hankic represents injured Christopher Knett in the FCW goal, Zlatko Dedic plays for the battered Patrik Eler in the attack right from the start. These are the only changes from the 1-0 home win against LASK two weeks ago. In the central defence, Lukas Hupfauf and Manuel Maranda will play alongside defensive boss Matthias Maak. “I am looking forward to this game. Also against the LASK one did not trust us much. It will be damn hard, but we will remember our strength and will give everything”, the 21-year-old Hupfauf has more lust than nervous flutter before the appearance against the bull herd.

Marco Rose’s troupe stands before the 50th Heimpflichtspiel without defeat at their first appearance after the country match break. “We have to resume the flow we had last time,” said Rose. The counter-pressing specialists are holding on to the league in Wals-Siezenheim with 33 games in a row without defeat. “You shouldn’t worry about it,” Rose said about the home run, which began on December 3, 2016. For Stefan Lainer it means one thing after all: “That gives you a certain security and a belief in your own strength.

Of course, you shouldn’t have to worry about Innsbruck anyway. Even if Rose warns of a “really unpleasant opponent who relies heavily on switching games”. The self-confidence of the Mozart city dwellers is, in any case, enormous. No wonder, after all, 16 wins and 2 draws have been won in 18 season games to date.

The game will be played on the new pitch, which was moved to Celtic Glasgow the day after the 2-0 win. On this underground, the success of twelve undefeated league games (eight wins, four draws) against Innsbruck will also be prolonged.
